Through Asa Gleek Designs, Ebony Amber, wanted to offer a diverse range of clothing and accessories that would serve as wearable works of art for individuals of all ages and genders. Blending elements of outsider art, skater punk, sci-fi, and sheer eccentricity, each piece embodies a unique and captivating aesthetic.
The creation process at AG is a testament to innovation and craftsmanship, with a multitude of mediums utilized to bring each design to life. From directly dyed fabrics to intricate bead embellishments, hand and machine stitching, and striking outsider art, every detail is meticulously crafted to ensure a one-of-a-kind piece.
AG takes pride in its commitment to sustainability, incorporating upcycled materials into many of the designs, particularly in limited editions and one-of-a-kind pieces. Embracing the belief that art should transcend traditional boundaries, Asa Gleek advocates for self-expression through fashion, encouraging individuals to boldly showcase their unique character and individuality with every wear.
“Creating wearable or usable art has always been a long standing interest of mine. There isn’t enough wall space in this world for all of the creative minds out there, we need to branch out and think of people as our canvases!”
The Graffiti Fashion Show proved to be a resounding success, propelling Ebony into the spotlight and catching the eye of the RAW Organization. This independent arts group hosts a prestigious national competition each year, spotlighting emerging artists across diverse mediums. Impressed by Ebony's talent, RAW invited her to participate in their 2012 showcase.
Inspired by this opportunity, Ebony embarked on a creative journey, crafting new, one-of-a-kind garments that expanded upon her innovative 'Graffiti Fashion' concept.
Ebony's ingenuity and artistry were duly recognized when she clinched the title of Connecticut Fashion Designer of the Year. Her outstanding achievement also earned her a nomination for National Fashion Designer of the Year in the esteemed RAW competition.
The concept behind the Graffiti Fashion collection was straightforward yet dynamic—infusing garments with elements that were playful, doll-like, and bursting with color. To complement Ebony's bold designs, hair and makeup were expertly crafted by Ashley Stone, the owner of Beauty Entourage.
In May 31st, 2014, two years following her success at the RAW event, Ebony went on to create a show entitled Eternalism. More than just a fashion event, the show also served as a fundraiser for Make A Wish Connecticut- raising $3000.
Showcasing 11 distinctive ensembles, Ebony blended her signature 'graffiti' fabric style with her passion for upcycling, using solely second-hand leather and fur materials.
The 'Eternalism' concept explored the cyclical nature of life, drawing inspiration from primitive tribal cultures while infusing a contemporary flair.
This show would be the first not branded under the Asa Gleek Designs umbrella.
